Veltone ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Veltone web application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Name (if provided)
  • Authentication credentials (password hash or OAuth token)

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We do not receive your Google password.

1.2 Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information when you use the Service:

  • Device type, browser type, and operating system
  • IP address and approximate location (country level)
  • Pages visited and features used
  • Date and time of access

1.3 Translation Content

When you use Veltone to translate or draft text, we process the content you provide ("User Content"). This includes source text, selected tone, recipient context, and channel settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service (legal basis: contract performance)
  • Process your translations and generate AI-powered outputs (legal basis: contract performance)
  • Manage your account and subscription (legal basis: contract performance)
  • Send transactional emails (e.g., password resets, billing receipts) (legal basis: contract performance)
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the product (legal basis: legitimate interest / consent for analytics cookies)
  • Prevent fraud and enforce our Terms of Use (legal basis: legitimate interest)

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. AI Processing

Veltone uses Anthropic (Claude) to process translations and text generation. When you submit content for translation:

  • Your input text is sent to Anthropic's API for processing
  • We do not use your content to train AI models
  • Anthropic processes data under their own privacy policy and data processing agreements
  • AI-processed outputs are returned to you and stored in your conversion history
  • You may delete your conversion history at any time

4. Data Retention

  • Account data is retained as long as your account is active
  • Conversion history is retained until you delete it or close your account
  • Usage logs are retained for up to 12 months
  • Upon account deletion, your personal data is removed within 30 days

5. Data Sharing

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: We use third-party services for hosting, payment processing, email delivery, and AI processing. These providers access your data only to perform services on our behalf.
  • Payment processing: Subscription payments are handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card information. Stripe's privacy policy governs their use of your payment data.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental regulation.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS)
  • Encryption at rest for sensitive data
  • Secure authentication with hashed passwords
  • Regular security reviews

7. Your Rights

Under GDPR and other applicable laws, you may have the right to:

Veltone is not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.

Your data may be processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States. Where we transfer personal data from the European Economic Area (EEA) to third countries, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as approved by the European Commission. Our AI provider (Anthropic) maintains their own data transfer mechanisms under their data processing agreements.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
