why we built this

We built the tool we wished we had

Veltone comes from years of rewriting two-sentence Japanese messages three times — and wishing someone would just tell us which version was right.

01

The problem we lived

Every foreigner in Japan knows this moment: you've drafted a message in Japanese, but you're not sure if it hits the right tone. Too polite? Not polite enough? Somewhere in an awkward middle that native speakers would never write?

At work, it's the email to a client where one wrong keigo form can undermine your credibility. It's the Slack message to your boss that you rewrote three times. It's asking a Japanese colleague to proofread your two-sentence reply — again.

But it doesn't stop at the office. It's the LINE message to your partner's parents where casual feels disrespectful but formal feels distant. The note to your kid's school that needs to be polite but not robotic. The reply to your landlord about a late rent payment where the tone actually matters.

Japanese isn't just a language — it's a system of invisible social signals that shift depending on who you're talking to, how well you know them, and what the moment calls for. And getting it wrong doesn't just feel embarrassing. It can cost you trust.

We built Veltone because we've lived this. In meeting rooms, in group chats, in everyday life in Japan.

02

What Veltone does

Veltone takes what you want to say in English and turns it into Japanese that fits the moment — whether that's a formal proposal to a client, a quick Slack reply to a teammate, a polite message to a neighbor, or a casual text to a friend.

You pick the tone. You tell Veltone who you're talking to. You get back one confident answer — not five options that leave you more confused than when you started.

Every translation comes with a short explanation of why that phrasing works, so you're not just copying text. Over time, you start recognizing the patterns yourself.

03

Who we're for

Anyone who lives and works in Japan and communicates in Japanese. You might be an engineer writing business emails, a manager navigating client relationships, a consultant preparing meeting notes — or a parent emailing a school, a tenant writing to a landlord, someone who just wants their texts to sound natural.

Most of our users start with Veltone for work. Many end up using it for everything else too.

You don't need to be fluent. You just need your message to land the way you intended.

our belief

One wrong tone can lose a deal. One right tone can deepen a relationship.

Language tools should give you that confidence — at work, at home, and everywhere in between.
